State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration Review - Let the madness begin

The world is falling apart, it’s absolute chaos. Every passing minute more and more settlers are getting infected with this new virus that turns them into brain-dead zombies. These starving undead would eat up everything they get their hands on. You luckily have survived until now.

That is basically the premise of State of Survival games, a post-apocalyptic strategy in which your goal is to create a settlement strong enough to withstand the horrors of the dreadful undead-infested world. Who knows that might come in handy in real life too in the coming future.

Falling in love with the protagonist is quite outdated. The fun begins when you feel for the Villain. Or even better, relate to them. The game with the new collaboration brings our favourite and the most iconic villain, Joker into this Zombie apocalypse. When it’s your life at stake, trusting a smart maniac like Joker is a tough call.

A terrifying breed of laughing zombies begins to attack, as Joker shows up with his calm in chaos attitude. He could be one of them or just a survivor as he says. To see how the story unrolls let’s get right into the gameplay.

State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration offers an eventful campaign that combines the villain's maniacal behaviour with zombies, promising a unique strategy experience. All players who complete a limited campaign that combines zombies with the Joker's antics will permanently unlock him as a playable character.

These survivors have found a safe haven. At the start, your settlement is fairly small, and it only has a few basic buildings. To expand it, you will have to clear the surrounding area of zombies.

State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration has several different resources, such as food, wood, iron, gas, energy, and some others. In order to get these, you would have to do simple tasks. These include clearing the surrounding areas, rescuing survivors, constructing or upgrading some other buildings, and as you progress task variety increases.

To save survivors, or clear a place of zombies, you deploy some of your heroes, and they fight the zombies. Every hero has their own unique skills and styles they can use during combat.

Players must build a community to fight off the walking dead.  You will be able to make friends with other players of the game and enter alliances. You can attack the settlements of players of other alliances and raid their resources and they can attack yours too.

It is a mix of the two genres where players split their time between battles and improve their base. However, the aim of the game is to survive. Shoot down enemies, build bases, feed your crew, protect your headquarters, and above all stay alive.

The Strengths of State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration

State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration gives a concise tutorial as you begin. But throughout the game, if you get stuck anywhere, it gives soft nudges demonstrating what to do next. These guidelines are quite helpful even at higher stages of the game.

The intermixing of genres makes the game most exciting. You manage your space, defend your area, strategize and go on to frontline fights. This adds up to a well-rounded experience that doesn’t get stagnant or boring.

The soundtrack although is the high spot of State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration. It helps build up the tension, particularly in the fighting scenes. It subtly plays in the background, and as you encounter harder enemies, it gets more and more prominent. It majorly contributes to the apocalyptic feel of the game.

The survivors have their unique personalities and they hold their separate identities throughout. The voiced dialogues give a conversational realistic feel to the game. Maddie’s attire, her voice, her dialogues, and even her fight tactics are just in line with her jolly and sweet personality. And same is the case with every other hero. The character building is truly commendable.

State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration is light on the phone, requires a small amount of storage in exchange for a good amount of content. The game runs on almost all devices.

The Weaknesses of State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration

The most prominent issue I faced was that I had absolutely no control over the Joker. The character appears and leaves as he pleases. The game doesn’t guide the process of getting Joker on the team.

In fact, in actual zombie fights, the levels are completed pretty much automatically. You’re there just to place characters and guns and to make special moves. Since, the fight is the main part of the game, lagging in that is a major downside.

State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration has a bird’s eye view for all its modes. It doesn’t feel like a first-person fighting game or even a role play. Instead, it’s like you’re watching a movie or a game streaming.

Though the locations are graphics are decent enough. But the visuals are pixelated. This might differ from device to device. On my Samsung A10, the picture quality was compromised.

Suggested Improvements for State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration

All the tasks, managing, and planning that lead to Zombie combat are amazingly designed. But the fight itself needs a lot of improvements. More involvement of the player, letting them move and shoot themselves would bring about a better fighting experience.

Also, the developers should add different angles. In construction and farming, the bird-eye view works. But when fighting or defending headquarters a first-person view is a lot better.

The most important feature that needs to be added is getting Joker earlier on the game. They could have a mini tutorial for which fights, and how many resources later would you get Joker on your team. Otherwise, the player aimlessly goes on and randomly comes across Joker.

State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration is a great game, filled with many interesting and engaging features. It is a well-balanced mix of genres. The Joker with his uncanny strength compared to other survivors, his cruel wit, and his insanity gives a spark to the game. State of Survival: The Joker Collaboration is definitely worth playing.
