Apple Watch 2 Will Launch In H2 2016

TPK Holding, the supplier for Apple's devices' displays, has revealed that Apple Watch will be making its debut in the second half of 2016.

According to a new report, Apple Watch 2 will feature One Glass Solution Display(OGS) instead of the Glass on Glass which could reduce the weight of the Watch as well as allow Apple to increase the space a bit as well.

Seeing the Apple Watch in action personally, I am excited about the changes which Apple would bring in its successor. Currently the rumors are only minor changes will be observed which is a little downer for me since I personally prefer circular design rather than the rectangular one already on the Watch.

Secondly, the processor will also be getting a boost as well as Cellular Connectivity combined with improved battery life.

Coming back to OGS, the launch of Apple Watch 2 may be slightly delayed if not already making its debut alongside iPhone 7(6SE). Basically the production of these new displays have encountered some technical difficulties and yield rates therefore have been incredibly lower than expected, according to Apple's supplier TPK.
The large loss for the second quarter was mainly because touch panel orders for iPhones continued to decrease, and Apple will change touch panel technology from G/G to OGS (one glass solution) in the new Apple Watch to be launched in the second half of 2016, TPK said. The change in touch panel technology involved unexpected technological difficulties and therefore yield rates for OGS touch panels were much lower than expected, TPK explained.
Glass on Glass technology has apparently managed to stay alive due to iPhone 4/4s and iPad 4 which included these displays. That is till 2014 but now most vendors and manufacturers are deploying OGS for their devices.

Another interesting news is that TPK Holding has suffered a significant loss of around 9%(gross margin) while reporting revenue roughly at $17 Billion. Shipments have slipped around 21% in the previous quarter. However they should see a rise in profits since Chevrolet and Tesla will adopt their displays for infotainment systems in their automotives.

What are your thoughts about the upcoming Apple Watch 2?
